Helium by Rudy Francisco

January 30, 2019

It’s no secret I love to read. This winter weather lately has given me a great excuse to get caught up on all the books I have sitting on the shelf, both in the real world and on my Kindle. I devour books at an unhealthy rate, and while I mostly stick to novels, lately I’ve been finding more poetry that I really enjoy. Especially, Rudy Francisco.

Rudy Francisco is a poet from San Diego, CA who is best known for his Spoken Word Poetry. I first discovered his work through a viral video of a performance he did of his poem “Complainers”. Shortly after, I picked up Helium and it is now one of my most favorite books of poetry I have in my collection. It’s the kind of book you want to read all at once but can’t because each poem is thought provoking and requires time to digest slowly before moving on to the next.  In a world where relatable content is king, his poetry includes themes that are both topical and introspective, and, ulta relatable.

If you’re looking for something great to read while waiting out this cold winter weather, definitely give this book a try! You won’t be disappointed!
